REVIEW: The Wailin’ Jennys Live

The Wailin' Jennys

The Wailin’ Jennys performed at Joe’s Pub in NYC on Sunday night. They are an acoustic folk group consisting of Ruth Moody, Nicky Mehta, Heather Masse and the “boy Jenny” Jeremy Penner. They filled the intimate setting with folk, bluegrass and spiritual songs. Their unique sound is like a soul soothing mix of The Indigo Girls, Nanci Griffith and Norah Jones. The ladies sang haunting three part harmonies either a capella or while they played a variety of instruments. They masterfully played the stand up bass, banjo, accordion and ukulele among other instruments, which added to the distinction of their music. Penner accompanied them on violin and mandolin. Thursday morning at 7 AM the K-Rock Street Team will be manning the gas pumps at two Luk Oil Stations:

Luk Oil on Route 17 South in Rutherford, NJ
Luk Oil on 3229 Sunrise Highway in Wantagh, Long Island

The first 50 cars will get a ticket valid for one fill up with an $80 maximum.

FREE Iced Coffee Day @ Dunkin Donuts – Tomorrow May 15th!

Dunkin Donuts - FREE Iced Coffee Day - May 15th

The highly anticipated Dunkin Donuts FREE Iced Coffee Day was originally slotted for sometime in March. However, this year the unofficial coffee addict holiday has been moved to Thursday May 15th. You have 12 hours, 10AM-10PM, to collect your free caffeine.

As part of this one-day event, Dunkin Donuts will also be donating $80,000 to the National Police Athletic League’s Youth Leadership Program, a nonprofit organization devoted to working with disadvantaged youth throughout the country in an effort to spread the importance of community service and peer leadership.

Brooklyn musician Rench, has released “Gangstagrass” a 22 track bluegrass/hip-hop mash up album. Rench is a singer, songwriter, and producer with roots in honky-tonk, hip-hop, and trip-hop music. With the help of very talented friends he records and releases music because he enjoys it. He likes sad songs and pedal steel guitar. He likes drum samples and scratches. He likes playing live sets at Hanks Saloon in Brooklyn.
