The Dick Towel Is Real

Posted on 08 November 2009 by Joe Dimeck

dick_towel_image_smAll of those humorously twisted folk who tuned in for the most recent episode of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia know what’s up with the Dick Towel.  Given the episode’s Bill Mays’ quality of selling ridiculous shit with an even more ridiculous spin,  it’s not surprising that the Gang has taken the fictional and introduced it to the place we all know as the real world.  Fans of the show can now go to www.DickTowel.com and buy themselves a towel with a giant cartoon cock and balls on it for the introductory price of $19.99.  Those of you who saw the show know that it also can be worn differently to show a tiny cock and balls, adding to the towel’s value as a conversation starter.

The towel’s availability outside the show is further evidence of the ingenuity of the Sunny creators and cast.  One example is the Night Man Cometh tour, where the Gang performed Charlie’s play from the season 4 finale in select cities around the U.S.  And nearly everyone has seen a Greeman during Halloween or some sporting event or political protest–pretty much wherever Greenman is needed.  There are websites devoted to selling the costume (BeGreenman.com), and within a short time after the character’s debut, Greenman has become an excellent addition to America’s pop culture.

Now we have the Dick Towel.  Without a doubt, freshmen will be seen spotting the towel as they exit the shared showers in their dorm.  Old men at the gym will have a new (and less traumatizing) way of displaying genitals.  And most importantly, many people will be able to enjoy the cheap laughs that will come from the Dick Towel.  These are the sort of things that are working to establish It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia as the show of this generation–you know, besides the fact that it takes the Seinfeld model for television and amplifies it, creating an incredibly funny and immoral series.

As for how the Dick Towel escaped TV land, all we know is that Suburban Riot, a California-based apparel company, is in on the gag.  For those who love Charlie’s classic (read: rundown and haggard) horse tee, it can be purchased at Suburban Riot’s website.
