The Blackberry Javelin… Don’t Want Touchscreen? Me Either.

Posted on 28 September 2008 by Will Ehrhardt

So I’m in the market for a new cell phone in the near future, and there are some exciting things coming from HTC, Blackberry, and Google, to fight the iPhone. Personally though I would rather not have a touchscreen, ruling out most of the new phones hitting the market these days. Enter the Blackberry Javelin, the update to their ultra popular Curve.

Posted on 14 May 2008 by Brian James

RIM Introduces BlackBerry Bold

I just recently purchased the T-Mobile Dash to hold me over until the 2nd generation iPhone comes out, but how incredibly gorgeous does the BlackBerry Bold look? Bravo RIM. You guys did an amazing job. I might have to get my hands on this new toy. Everyone at work has been raving about this handset. Word on the street is that the BlackBerry Bold will be available sometime this summer on AT&T with a T-Mobile edition as well. The handset can handle 850/1900/2100Mhz for HSDPA/UMTS as well as T-Mobile’s 1700MHz band. For those of you who travel a lot, feel free to take this one overseas.

Here are some stats/features Gizmodo have reported:

  • 802.11a/b/g plus good GPS
  • GPS is enhanced and assisted; better map rendering
  • 480 x 320 resolution screen with 65,000 colors
  • 624MHz Intel PXA270/Marvell Tavor PXA930 processor (?)
  • BlackBerry OS 4.6
  • Keyboard has 8800-style “sculpted keys, but the rows are separated by curved barriers,” says PC Mag
  • 4.5″ tall x 2.6″ wide x 0.5″ deep, weighing 4.7oz
  • Side-loading MicroSD/SDHC slot for up to 16GB additional
  • 2MP camera w/ flash
  • 5 hours of talk time w/ 13 days of standby
  • MP3, WMA, AAC, DivX4 and WMV3 codec support
  • 3.5mm headphone jack
  • Stronger Speakers
  • 128MB of flash plus 1GB of onboard memory (with encryption)
  • Black leather back panel that can be swapped for other color leather plates
  • Pricing Range:Estimated $300 – 500

Apparently the BlackBerry Bold also has Wi-Fi capabilities while previous BlackBerry models lacked this feature which has quickly become standard on most smart phones. Continue Reading

Unlock cell phones with the Universal SIM Unlock Card

Posted on 06 May 2008 by Brian James

Still have another year on a T-Mobile contract, but you’ve always wanted an iPhone? For a small fraction of the cost of a cell phone, you can now unlock almost any cellular device using the Universal SIM Unlock Card. This SIM Unlock is a thin piece of FPC that sits between your SIM card and the cell phone’s SIM socket, allowing you to use the phone with “unauthorized” SIM cards and essentially making your phone an open-source device.

Universal Unlock Card

“No more Test-Point. No more opening phones.. No more waiting for logs.. No more Server delays & errors.. No more Cracks & illegal hackings.. No more damaged phones.. No more lost warranty because of phone modifications.”

A small incision (sound familiar – MDA?) is required for the card to work but for $22.99 it’s worth a shot.

Purchase the Universal SIM Unlock Card over at USBfever.com.

No service? How to fix your MDA PocketPC!

Posted on 05 May 2008 by Brian James

So I know the MDA is an old phone and I’m sure you’ve all heard about the poor reception and service of this cell phone. Many reviews said the MDA was better as a pocket PC than a cell phone. I recently acquired an MDA for free from a friend. The phone received no service bars inside any building. After a little research, I found a solution. Thanks to a courageous member of the Howard Forums, my phone now receives full bars virtually everywhere in New York City; indoors and outdoors. How did I do it?

If you’re still rocking the older version (2006) of the MDA and you have poor service you may want to try this: Continue Reading
