
Katzenjammer from Oslo, Norway consists of 4 ladies, 29 instruments, and a seemingly infinite amount of energy and mojo. Songs like “Demon Kitty Rag” conjure up the image of a mustached villain tying a helpless gal to the train tracks, which is probably a fitting song to mention as most of Katzenjammer’s songs remind me of some kind of frantic yet comical silent movie or a day at the carnival or amusement park. Maybe that’s just me being a weirdo, but the girls in Katzenjammer manage to produce a healthy helping of musical fun, which is to be expected. After all, their promotional photo shows them all laughing and enjoying themselves as they hold their respected instruments, the most notable one being the kitty-adorned balalaika bass. Nevertheless, Turid, Solveig, Marianne and Anne Marit are self-taught on nearly all of the 29 instruments, which must be quite a pain to travel with, but hey, without them Katzenjammer would not be able to produce those energizing and mood-lifting ditties for our enjoyment.
