fashion forward or fashion flop?

November 25, 2008 by Jamie Villarreal

I know, I know. I’ve been slacking and deserve a slap on the hand. Then I decided, what better way to get back into the posting swing than with a hit or miss?

Bobby Trendy and Phoebe Price out for an afternoon stroll and some retail therapy. I know you have to have an opinion on this so let’s hear it!

Bold, fierce and fabulous or hideous, hot mess?

Project Runway finale

October 22, 2008 by Jamie Villarreal

Last Wednesday was the finale of Project Runway. Two of my favorites from day one made it to Bryant Park: Leann and Korto. Kenley should have been gone awhile ago and not only because she was incredibly defensive and bitchy. If we played the Kenley drinking game this season we all would have been terribly wasted every Wednesday night. But her crappy attitude is besides the point!

Let’s talk Bryant Park - the line up was Kenly, Korto and rounding them up, Leann. Tim Gunn filled in as guest judge last minute for Jennifer Lopez, who pulled out because of a “foot injury” but still managed to compete in a triathalon two days later. Gunn makes it work far better than J-Lo anyway. Kenley realizes she probably should not have been such a raging bitch when she hears that news. Read more

Interview with Suede from Project Runway

October 21, 2008 by Jamie Villarreal

Anyone who reads my blog could probably tell that I’m a huge Project Runway fan and I have been since the beginning (Jay was totally my favorite winner ever). I had my first Project Runway designer encounter when I met Santino (who is probably one of the nicest guys ever) back in April and now I have another to add to that list!

Due to an amazing blog friend who seriously hooked it up, I managed to score a little interview with Suede! Unfortunately, we couldn’t do the interview in person but if he ever comes to Chicago (seriously, call me up!), I will buy him a drink because if he is half as fun as this looks, I think it will be a good time!

Check out what Suede had to say! Read more

Madge’s shoes stir up controversy

October 15, 2008 by Jamie Villarreal

At the premier of Madonna’s directorial debut, Filth and Wisdom, she stepped out guns blazing. Okay, not really, but her shoes were packing. Donning a pair of Chanel’s Miami Vice heels from the 2009 Cruise Collection, little did Madonna know what she was starting. Scratch that, you know she did. First, announcing she will kick Sarah Palin’s ass at a concert and now gun shoes.

Lynn Costello, from Mothers Against Murder And Aggression, said in a statement released this week regarding Madge’s footwear: Read more

You know you love me

It’s one of the biggest shows on television right now…

That’s right - it’s Gossip Girl.

He is being conniving. Someone is sleeping with that girl’s boyfriend. She back stabbed so and so. While some are sucked into the black hole of a plot line that GG, the rest of are tuning in for the fashion.

That’s the real star of the show.

Teenagers and young women everywhere tune in to see what they are wearing. Preppy blazers, pin tucked blouses, thigh high boots with pleated skirts and leather jackets- there’s something for everyone no matter what your style is. The best part about it is the Gossip Girl stylists mix in more affordable pieces in with the Balenciaga and Louboutians. While you might not be able to drop $600 on a pair of shoes Blair Waldorf wore, you can put together your own look and include similar items you might find at your local mall. Read more

ANTM’s Elina for Tarina Tarantino

October 4, 2008 by Jamie Villarreal

Earlier this cycle there was a posing challenge judged by Tarina Tarantino, a notable jewelry and accessory designer. While most girls attempted to put their feet behind their head, hang on the chandelier or put handbags where no handbag should ever go - Elina, the resident vegan from the Ukraine, opted for poses that weren’t so ridiculous. As boring and bland as she comes off, her stunning face managed to clinch this challenge for her and as a result she scored a photo shoot for an upcoming Tarina Tarantino campaign.

Shot by photographer, Austin Young, Elina was transformed into a part anime-inspired, part Candy Land, neon princess. While Tarina Tarantino isn’t exactly my cup of tea, I have to admit these ads definitely jump off the screen and grab your attention. Read more

Michelle Obama shops at H&M

October 3, 2008 by Jamie Villarreal

As Rachel stated in a recent post, the Presidential election has been more likened to a reality competition. Rachel says American Idol but I’m going to go with America’s Next Top Model. There is a more emphasis than should be on Palin’s fashion choices or how much Cindy McCain spent on her outfits (cough$313,000cough) or if she wore the same accessories more than once.

Ridiculous, I know.

But here I am falling into the campaign fashion trap. No, this isn’t about McCain’s wife or Sarah Palin’s glasses. It’s about Mrs. Obama. Read more

Fashion forward or fashion flop?

September 30, 2008 by Jamie Villarreal

Victoria and David Beckham launched their new perfume this past weekend in New York. We all know Posh has never been one to shy away from bold fashion choices and whether you like them or not, her gift for being noticed is undeniable.

No heel?

This occasion was no exception. Victoria stepped out with a pair of thigh high latex boots. As if the latex leggings look wasn’t enough to get everyone’s attention, these Antonio Berardi PVC boots had no heel! Even with her tiny frame it’s remarkable she managed to stay upright 5 1/2 inches from the purple carpet that graced the walkway.

Need some of your own? A cool £3,300 will get you your own made to order heel-less boots. Obviously, Posh isn’t the only one who loves these as 60 pairs have already been commissioned and made!

What’s the word: totally fashion forward or total fashion flop?

Designer face off at the Emmys

September 28, 2008 by Jamie Villarreal

You either love him or you hate him. I’m talking about Christian Siriano, winner of season four of Project Runway. While watching that season every time I heard the word fierce, I wanted to rip the hair out from my head and stab my ears with a fork.

But you can’t deny the kid has talent. Read more
