Signs We Are in a Recession- We Buy Gold

December 3, 2008 by Heather Holloway

We Buy Gold on Wall Street

It is official, we are in a recession. There are so many signs that this is true and has been for a while. This sign shouts recession. I found this man standing on Wall Street Monday afternoon. He was wearing a sandwich board for a Wall Street jewelry store stating, “we buy gold” and holding plastic bags to collect it right then and there. You can see The Bank of New York Melon and the New York Stock Exchange in the background. Is it really so bad that people are going to take off their bling in the middle of the street? What signs have you found that we are in a recession? Please leave your feedback in the comments.

Fake Obama and Fake McCain

October 13, 2008 by Heather Holloway

I recently asked Fake John McCain and Fake Barack Obama some important questions about the real issues.

What are they going to do if they lose the race?

Fake Obama says, “I have been working really hard. If I lose, I want to continue working hard but in a different way. I am going to use my new celebrity status to join the cast of Chicago on Broadway as Billy Flynn. It’s not going to be easy but I can do it. Richard Gere made it look so simple in the movie. I have confidence in myself and my family has been very supportive. I have been listening to the soundtrack on the campaign trail to familiarize myself with the music just in case. Who am I kidding? I know the whole thing by heart. Read more

Love Forever- Alisa Trimble Spring 2009

Love Forever - Alisha Trimble Spring 2009

Alisha Trimble premiered her Spring 2009 collection for Fashion Indie Week Brooklyn on Saturday. The designs are a playful and sexy interpretation of menswear that is still very feminine. There were ladylike dresses, pants, and swimsuits with menswear accents such as bow ties and shoulder pads. All of the models faces were painted white with hot pink cheeks and yellow eye makeup. Trimble was inspired by disco clowns and this added to the frisky look of the collection. Read more

REVIEW: The Wailin’ Jennys Live

August 26, 2008 by Heather Holloway

The Wailin' Jennys

The Wailin’ Jennys performed at Joe’s Pub in NYC on Sunday night. They are an acoustic folk group consisting of Ruth Moody, Nicky Mehta, Heather Masse and the “boy Jenny” Jeremy Penner. They filled the intimate setting with folk, bluegrass and spiritual songs. Their unique sound is like a soul soothing mix of The Indigo Girls, Nanci Griffith and Norah Jones. The ladies sang haunting three part harmonies either a capella or while they played a variety of instruments. They masterfully played the stand up bass, banjo, accordion and ukulele among other instruments, which added to the distinction of their music. Penner accompanied them on violin and mandolin. Margaret Cho Fans Rejoice!

August 24, 2008 by Heather Holloway

Margaret Cho

“The Cho Show” debuted on VHI Thursday night. It has the same structure as Kathy Griffin’s My Life on the D-List where it shows Margaret at home, doing stand-up and out with her friends. The show features Selene Luna, her assistant, her parents and her glam squad consisting of her stylist, make-up artist and hairstylist. It is very amusing to see Mr. and Mrs. Cho instead of only seeing Margaret’s impression of them. You can see that she is not exaggerating. She says, “I keep them around because old people are a really good source of prescription medication.”Margaret’s assistant Selene is more like her funny sidekick than her employee. Her humor compliments Margaret well.

The first episode is about Margaret wining the Korean of the Year award. Her make-up artist and stylist have a competition to come up with an outfit for her to wear to the awards. The choices are not would you would typically see on the red carpet!

If you are a Margaret Cho fan you will love this show! If you have not experienced her comedy you should check out the show. Then rent her stand up movie “I’m the One That I Want”. VH1 has video extras on the VSPOT .

The Cho Show airs on VH1 Thursdays at 11 PM EST.
