Auto Bailout Fails in Senate

December 12, 2008 by droveto

It seemed that after Congress passed the latest $14 Billion Bailout that it would surely make it through the senate today without too much friction, but that wasn’t the case.

“We were about three words away from a deal,” said Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee, the GOP’s point man in the negotiations.  The United Auto Workers union would not accept to bring wages in line with Japanese competitors by 2009, and that was the issue that prevented this bill from being passed.

Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Democrat, said he hoped President George W. Bush would tap the $700 billion Wall Street bailout fund for emergency aid to the automakers. General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC have said they could be weeks from collapse. Ford Motor Co. says it does not need federal help now, but its survival is far from certain. Read more

Abortion, This Years Hot Stocking Stuffer

Abortion in a stocking?

Planned Parenthood in Indiana is selling Gift Certificates in their 35 clinics across the state good for everything from condoms, office visits, co-pays, medication, and abortions.  These gift certificates can also be purchased online at their website located at ppin.com in $25 increments.

President and CEO of Indiana Right to Life has this to say, “The tragedy is that almost 6,000 fewer children will be celebrating a first Christmas this year because they were aborted in Planned Parenthood’s Indiana clinics.”

Director of the Office for Pro-Life Ministry for the Catholic Archdiocese of Indianapolis, Sister Diane Carollo had this to say, “They deserve coal in their stocking, not money for lethal gift certificates.”

However, Planned Parenthood has downplayed the amount of abortions that will be directly related to this Gift Certificate Campaign.  Betty Cockrum, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood in Indiana states, “Birth control is the best way to avoid unintended pregnancy. Avoiding unintended pregnancy is the best way to reduce abortion rates.” She added that her organization performs abortions on only about 5,000 of the 92,000 patients it sees annually and also pointed out that there are over 80,000 resident in Indiana without Health Insurance and that these Gift Certificates will help provide Health Care to people who may have not otherwise received any.

Indiana Health Commissioner Dr. Judy Monroe applauded the idea, calling it a “really a meaningful gift.”

Ron Paul Endorses Young Americans for Liberty

December 3, 2008 by droveto

In recent news, Ron Paul announced his endorsement of a group inspired by Dr. Pauls thinking called the Young Americans for Liberty.

From their website, www.yaliberty.org they list their mission is to, “train, educate, and mobilize youth activists committed to “winning on principle”. Our goal is to cast the leaders of tomorrow and reclaim the policies, candidates, and direction of our government.”

Congressman (R, Tex) Ron Paul writes in an email blast:

An excitement for liberty gripped the college campuses unlike I have ever seen before. Young people were energized for real change.

Still to my amazement, our college rallies attracted thousands of young people. Students were hungry for the message of freedom, peace, and prosperity.

For this reason, a youth-based movement for liberty is essential to our cause. It is these young men and women who will become tomorrow’s champions of liberty.

That’s why I am giving my enthusiastic endorsement to Young Americans for Liberty (YAL).”

Jeff Frazee, who worked on Ron Paul’s campaign as the National Youth Coordinator, has launched this organization.  He has already established 47 chapters this semester, and plans to add another 100 in the year 2009 across the college campuses of the US.

Dr. Ron Paul’s Campaign for Liberty (www.campaignforliberty.com) has supplied $25,000 in seed money to help start Young Americans for Liberty.

Are The Big Three Auto Makers Doomed?

November 18, 2008 by droveto

The auto industry seems to be next on the list of industries that will need federal support in order to maintain its existence in the United States. The Center of Automotive Research in Ann Arbor, Mich., estimates that the failure of the US auto industry would lead to the loss of 2.5 million jobs which is just more bad news in regards to the weakened US economy. Congress is set to debate this week on the fate of the Big Three, GM, Ford and Chrysler. GM has already warned that it may run out of cash and be forced to declare bankruptcy before the end of the year.

They’re a dinosaur in a sense,” Senator Richard Shelby, R-Ala., said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday. “I hate to see this because I would like to see them become lean and hungry and innovative. And if they did and put out the right products they could survive. But I don’t believe that the $25 billion they’re talking about will make them survive. It’s just postponing the inevitable.” Read more

Amidst Obama Mania, Third Parties Gain Steam

November 17, 2008 by droveto

During the hype of the past election, which more closely resembled the Super Bowl, and the ensuing Obama Mania, there was a rumbling that picked up a lot of steam, and that’s the quiet roar being heard from Third Party candidates. As the policies of Democrats and Republicans converge, more and more voters are seeking out other options, and as they learn about their philosophies, they are realizing just how little choice they’ve had when deciding upon our leaders in our recent history.
