House Passes Food Safety Bill That Benefits Agricorps

smallfarmAwhile back we posted an article on HR 875, which was essentially a bill proposed to Congress as a way of reforming the food industry in order to make food safer.  What the bill really was, in essence, was a way to bankrupt and put serious strain on smaller farms by way of harsh punishments for failing to meet the requirements of the bill.   The end result of those restrictions and regulations would eventually cause many small, sustainable farms to go under while the bigger agricorps like Monsanto could afford to either pay the fines or fight them in court.  Well, being the sneaks that they are, the House changed the name a bit and put what is pretty much the same bill up for vote.  HR 2749 – The Food Safety Enhancement Act of 2009 will most likely be voted on by the Senate after the summer recess.

Any bill that makes it difficult for smaller farms to remain in business, especially when those regulations are the result of irrational fears and ulterior motives, should not be tolerated or accepted. HR 2749 will cripple small farms and permit agricorps to push their chemically-laden foods on American citizens, ultimately stifling freedom of choice. One-size-fits-all legislation is dangerous and unacceptable. This bill is something that is monopolistic and morally bankrupt disguised as something righteous.  Rosa DeLauro is either soulless or a complete idiot, who is easily swayed by her husband, who is connected to the very agricorps that will benefit from such legislation.
