Sick. We've lost all common sense. We always hear what a tough job police have, but there are always more than enough police applicants. Nurses aids have a tough job. Temps have tough jobs. I sat here and thought for a moment before I wrote this. Yes if she was my grandmother I would be pissed the hell off. But, that would not have been my grandmother in the first place. What business those she have waving a knife at the police like she bad or something? If she I had a problem with someone else she should I have put the knife down and tell them what's going on. Now we really don't know what happen before this so we cannot form much of an opinion. Slamming her to the ground was not the right way to do it but when you see a police you don't wave a knife. If you look for trouble you are going to get it no matter how old you are. It don't like police either but its reality.

you r all crazy if u think this is police brutality. the lady started off by waving the knife at the officer and was continually walking towards the officer. now i agree that it may not of been the best way to handle the situation, but whether you want to believe it or not the officers life was in danger and she did what she had to do. it is not her fault or intention that the ladies head split open.

Ridiculous. The cop was much younger and much faster. She could have disarmed the woman by quickly taking the knife from her or simply talked to her until she gave the knife up. Instead she body slams her, splits her skull and creates a scene. A cop like this is WAY too stressed to have a gun.

Not justified. The old lady wasn't threatening anyone, just seemed to be a bit out of it. Both the knife and cane are potential weapons, as well as legal tools. Should the police brutalize old people for carrying canes too? Considering the way the old lady was shuffling along, I seriously doubt the cop felt threatened.

Yea, I would agree that this isn't nearly as bad as the cop who tased the 72 year-old woman. Lady had a knife, wasn't cooperating, got judo tossed, landed wrong, split head. The cop probably could've just grabbed the lady's wrist to disarm her since she was so frail, but I guess the cop wanted to throw in the toss just to make sure the old lady wasn't deceptively strong or something ha.

Sorry there is no way in hell this is justified. Yes she did have a knife in her hand but she also was walking with a cane and she's 87!!! I'm a nurse and we deal with combative elderly patients every single day. Be sure we are not allowed to body slam a patient to the ground unless they have a gun. A knife....please! I and other staff have had to disarm patients who are having a psychotic episode without causing bodily harm and alot of them are bigger and stronger. They could have come behind her and disarmed her but not slam her to the ground. What a shame!!

sorry but I have to agree with Lilia. It is justified. There's no law stating how old a person can be detained using cops "Take Me Down Tactics." It's unfortunate and it's sad. But also think about an age of a person. If a murderer is 90 years you think his mind mentality is capable of stopping his murderious obsessions?... I'm sure it could have been handled differently. Some say a Tazer would have been affective, but what if she would have landed on that same knife?... The people that was watching the whole thing would also still say police brutality cause the VAST MAJORITY OF CITIZENS DON'T KNOW THEIR RIGHTS...
