Michael Phelps and His Bong

Let’s begin with the story that rocked the internet and gave hope to potheads’ nationwide.  In a twisted turn in the Michael Phelps Bong Smoking fiasco, Richland County sheriff, Leon Lott Jr., said he plans on investigating the photo in the hopes that he can file charges against the half-man half-dolphin.

Imagine if every photo that appeared on the net of a person smoking a bong, blunt, joint, or bowl was investigated in order to build a criminal case against the person photographed.  Imagine that.  Done?  Good, so you see how much of a rockhead this sheriff is.  If the Michael Phelps incident has done anything besides garner tons of exposure for various blogs, it has once again brought the debate on marijuana’s legality into the public spotlight.  And with that comes TONS of idiocy.  After browsing the various comments on articles regarding the issue, I’m shocked by the amount of people who still cling to those demented Anslinger-esque notions that pot will make you axe murder your family.  Granted, comment sections on the internet are often an exhibition of supreme ignorance–and oddly enough, a viable place to turn if you need to make a case in favor of abortion.

That said, I do have some advice for Michael since my previous advice won’t do him any good in a court of law: just say you were smoking salvia, Mike.  Yea, it’s DMT’s ugly cousin, but it’s legal.  Please, Mike, don’t resort to making some pathetic PR statement where you apologize for being “youthful”.  You’re 23, you are youthful.

Cheney Still Terrorizing America

In a recent interview, Dick Cheney harshly criticized Obama, indirectly saying Obama’s adherence to “campaign rhetoric” will aid terrorists in succeeding in a nuclear or biological attack.  I’ve been dealing with that heartless cad, Cheney, far too much this week, so I’ll leave it at that.

Daschle Be Gone

Obviously, the incident with Tom Daschle and his tax evasion was the biggest political news this week, and Obama’s humble response and acceptance of responsibility for the mishap was probably the most shocking part of the whole ordeal.  Nevertheless, here is a somewhat humorous Daschle campaign ad:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdrp8vIoofA

If you don’t see why it’s humorous, then I guess it’s best to post an excerpt from Washington Post columnist, Steven Pearlstein’s piece on Daschle:

Tom Daschle’s problem wasn’t that he didn’t pay his taxes. It was that he — along with those who vetted his nomination as health and human services secretary and many of his colleagues in the Senate — found it perfectly ordinary and acceptable that he would be able to cash in on his time in the Senate by earning more than $5 million over two years as a law-firm rainmaker, equity fundraiser, corporate director and luncheon speaker, all the while being driven around town in a chauffeured town car. Not exactly Cincinnatus returning to the plow.

Obama Caps Executive Pay

Hey, Obama, why so serious?  Oh, right, shit hit the fan and we voted that you have to clean it up.  In an effort to make sure the companies that received bailout money aren’t using the money to buy $50 million luxury jets, President Obama has now made it so they won’t be using golden parachutes either.  Keeping to yet another campaign promise, Obama imposed a $500,000 salary cap on executives of companies who received taxpayer money for their failures.  Geez, does this guy ever stop with the promise keeping?
