Girl Talk, The Death Set & CX Kidtronik

Posted on 05 December 2008 by jfidler

Twenty bucks will get you a packed venue, crazy mash-ups and a smashing good time (literally). Imagine yourself in a pool of people, not a sober face in site, being pushed up against a stage as if you were an extra in Gregory Nava’s, Selena. Sound appetizing?

This past November, I ventured off to Pontiac, Michigan, to see Girl Talk perform. I can’t say I have ever seen Girl Talk before, but I can say I will most definitely be seeing this musician perform again. For those of you who don’t know what Girl Talk is, allow me to explain. Gregg Gillis has been performing under this name for quite some time now. His specialty? Mash-up style remixes, which include more songs than one can fathom. What makes Gillis amazing is his artistic ability to combine tunes of every genre imaginable. One song may include everything from John Lennon to the Jackson Five to Rihanna. His variety of music applies to many generations.

Gillis attended school at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where he studies biomedical engineering. He has since pursued living as a DJ, managing to sell out show after show. I highly recommend checking out his music, and if possible, making it to one of his concerts. If you ever find yourself at a Girl Talk concert, be prepared to hop on stage with a shirtless dancing mad man named Greg Gillis aka Girl Talk.
