MINDLESS ENTERTAINMENT: The Age Project
December 26, 2008 by Brian James
Here’s another addition to the “websites you don’t want to get caught looking at while at work” list: The Age Project. It’s a simple idea. You guess how old the person in the picture is and then it tells you their real age. Mindlessly entertaining, but the number of people who look much older than they actually are is intriguing to say the least. Enjoy!
Rod Blagojevich: Dirty politician by day, Jim Jones impersonator by night
December 23, 2008 by Brian James
The mystery and lack of transparency surrounding politicians is an open invitation for scrutiny and conspiracy. First we discovered that Rahm Emanual is really Nathan Petrelli from NBC’s hit series Heroes. Today we reveal Rod Blagojevich’s strange affinity for Jim Jones. In case you don’t remember, Jim Jones was the leader of The People’s Temple, a cult responsible for over 900 of their members’ mass suicide deaths in Jonestown, Guyana. However, Blagojevich and Jones have more in common than mental instability and incriminating leadership roles; Both sport an impressive Elvis Presley hair-do!

President Bush’s surprise visit to Iraq resulted in an unforeseen attack… a shoe attack. Watch President Bush duck two shoes thrown at him by an Iraqi reporter. He’s got reflexes like a cat! Also note his iconic presidential smirk.

Auto Bailout Fails in Senate
December 12, 2008 by droveto
It seemed that after Congress passed the latest $14 Billion Bailout that it would surely make it through the senate today without too much friction, but that wasn’t the case.
“We were about three words away from a deal,” said Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee, the GOP’s point man in the negotiations. The United Auto Workers union would not accept to bring wages in line with Japanese competitors by 2009, and that was the issue that prevented this bill from being passed.
Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Democrat, said he hoped President George W. Bush would tap the $700 billion Wall Street bailout fund for emergency aid to the automakers. General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC have said they could be weeks from collapse. Ford Motor Co. says it does not need federal help now, but its survival is far from certain. [Read more]
Stalking Stuffer Shortlist - Part 1
December 10, 2008 by Mike Newman
Well, the Holidays are once again upon us, however heavily, and today I’ve got for you several things that I would love to find in my Christmas stocking on any of the days of Hanukkah or harvest nights of Kwanzaa. But wait, silly…don’t reach for your credit card to start buying them for me. For I’ve already received them from merry media mavens and poinsettia-pwning publicists, so that I could show you how wonderful they are so that you can buy them for your loved one or stalking victim. Be glad you didn’t have to wade through all the crap to get to this cream, because I did. You’re welcome.
Here’s Part One of my first annual Stalking Stuffer Shortlist (at least I have another full year to come up with a better title)…
The first item that you or your loved one should own is the DVD Sunshine Superman-The Journey of Donovan. It is the ultimate super-documentary of rock’s underrated mystic man. Donovan was never quite purely classic rock, singer/songwriter, world music, folk singer, or spiritual guru, but quite an amazing amalgam of all of those things, and a profound influence on many important recording artists…such as Jimmy Page, John Mellencamp, Graham Nash, Devendra Banhart, and lots more. The first disc is a 3-hour chronicle of rock’s underrated mystic man, which is narrated by the mystical man himself. The second disc is chock full of concert footage, TV appearances, music videos, and more about the private life of Donovan. Sunshine Superman-The Journey of Donovan is a must if you call yourself a Donovan fan and possibly the Lost Ark for the uninitiated.

That’s Cold, Coldplay!
December 9, 2008 by Mike Newman
Hey all, so I’m back from taking two trips in the last couple weeks and then getting sick the last couple days, and this seems to be at the height of music news, and certainly of interest to me. Coldplay is being sued by Joe Satriani for stealing his song, and to tell you the truth, I would be suing them too…coincident or not!
Check out this comparison…
Pretty damn convincing, huh? Not only that, I remember when the album first dropped and this song was being used in iPod commercials, there being some hubbub over it sounding a bit too much like a song by a band called the Creaky Boards. [Read more]
Celebrity Interns: Kanye West to be Louiss Vuitton or Raf Simons’ protege?
December 9, 2008 by Brian James
Kanye West is the latest celebrity to hop on the interning is now officially cool train. Apparently, Kanye wants to intern for fashion power houses Louis Vuitton or Raf Simons and apply that experience to launch his highly anticipated fashion line.
Simons tells the NY Times:
“I was blown away from the planet when he told me. I know he’s very serious about this — I don’t take it as a joke — but how can I imagine him being my intern? It’s a very extreme situation.”
If Mr. West follows through, and there’s no reason to doubt the man, then he’ll be joining the ranks of recent celeb interns such as musician Ryan Adams and hockey star Sean Avery. Adams interned for the style & culture magazine Blackbook (publicity stunt!) and Avery landed aninternship at Vogue. Did any of them walk away with some sort of valuable experience to further their career? Probably not, but that is why Kanye is capitalizing on becoming a fashion protege. [Read more]
Oldest stash of marijuana ever found in China
December 8, 2008 by Brian James
You know that feeling when you stumble upon a bag of weed on the street and you look around for someone walking over to claim it, but there’s no one in sight? Well, imagine how researchers in China felt when they found what is said to be the world’s oldest stash of marijuana. 789 grams of 2,700 year old marijuana was discovered inside the tomb of a Gushi shaman.
According to globeandmail.com:
The 18 researchers, most of them based in China, subjected the cannabis to a battery of tests, including carbon dating and genetic analysis. Scientists also tried to germinate 100 of the seeds found in the cache, without success.
The marijuana was found to have a relatively high content of THC, the main active ingredient in cannabis, but the sample was too old to determine a precise percentage.
A battery of tests? More like the researchers rolled a couple spliffs and packed a couple bowls! Regardless, one thing is for sure… with pot stashes found in over 500 excavated Gushi tombs in northwestern China, these researchers will be busy working for awhile.
Sign of The Times: Paul Nawrocki is Almost Homeless
December 8, 2008 by Brian James
Paul Nawrocki isn’t asking for your gold, but this former Lehman’s executive does need a job. With a sandwich board draped over his shoulders and a doomed economy looming over his head, Paul stands in the center of buzzing Midtown Manhattan handing out his resume to anyone willing to give him a chance. However, with 10.3 million unemployed and rising, Paul is merely a needle in a haystack. Unfortunately, the recently laid off isn’t the only competition for the unemployed; It’s the “I can’t believe I lost my job” vs. the 1 million “I’ve never been but need to be employed” college graduates. And this is where the other problem begins.
The younger, healthier and tech-savvier twenty-something year olds are advanced multitaskers with fresh ideas and innovative strategies. While Paul Nawrocki’s intern (assuming he has/had one) simultaneously Blackberry messages her boyfriend, updates her Facebook status and Tweets about her last final, she’s also preparing for her post-graduation job search. However, to combat the onslaught of the 2009 graduating class, Paul has gone on the offensive. [Read more]
Waterfalls and fountains in Japan’s Canal City
December 5, 2008 by Brian James
Found this sucka on Digg the other day. Here’s a pretty neat waterfall show in Hakata, Japan’s Canal City which is a large shopping and entertainment complex. Often considered as a “city within the city”, this popular Japanese destination features cafes, restaurants, movie theaters, game centers, hotels and a canal (obviously). Anyways, the dolphin waterfall images are the best.

Girl Talk, The Death Set & CX Kidtronik
December 5, 2008 by jfidler
Twenty bucks will get you a packed venue, crazy mash-ups and a smashing good time (literally). Imagine yourself in a pool of people, not a sober face in site, being pushed up against a stage as if you were an extra in Gregory Nava’s, Selena. Sound appetizing?
This past November, I ventured off to Pontiac, Michigan, to see Girl Talk perform. I can’t say I have ever seen Girl Talk before, but I can say I will most definitely be seeing this musician perform again. For those of you who don’t know what Girl Talk is, allow me to explain. Gregg Gillis has been performing under this name for quite some time now. His specialty? Mash-up style remixes, which include more songs than one can fathom. What makes Gillis amazing is his artistic ability to combine tunes of every genre imaginable. One song may include everything from John Lennon to the Jackson Five to Rihanna. His variety of music applies to many generations.
Gillis attended school at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where he studies biomedical engineering. He has since pursued living as a DJ, managing to sell out show after show. I highly recommend checking out his music, and if possible, making it to one of his concerts. If you ever find yourself at a Girl Talk concert, be prepared to hop on stage with a shirtless dancing mad man named Greg Gillis aka Girl Talk.
