Madge's shoes stir up controversy
October 15, 2008 by Jamie Villarreal
At the premier of Madonna’s directorial debut, Filth and Wisdom, she stepped out guns blazing. Okay, not really, but her shoes were packing. Donning a pair of Chanel’s Miami Vice heels from the 2009 Cruise Collection, little did Madonna know what she was starting. Scratch that, you know she did. First, announcing she will kick Sarah Palin’s ass at a concert and now gun shoes.

Lynn Costello, from Mothers Against Murder And Aggression, said in a statement released this week regarding Madge’s footwear:
“I am horrified that Madonna can see these shoes as fashion. As a mother herself I would have thought that she would have paused for a second and thought about all the young people here and in her own country that have died because of gun crime. She should have thought about all the young people that have died because of gun crime. We need the whole of society to take responsibility and action in stopping the glamorization of weapons. Celebrities have a massive part to play and an icon like Madonna should have more sense. It’s uncaring. Surely she reads the news and realizes that young people are dying every day.”
While I love Chanel and most of what Karl Lagerfeld does, I’m not really offended but think these are just plain tacky. I really doubt Madonna is showing her stance on gun control. As for Madonna, she should stop with the reinvention and realize she is too old to be traipsing around in leotards thinking she is edgy!
What are your take on the shoes? Offensive? Fashion hit? Flop?
Love them? Well too bad. They are not yet available in stores but you can join the extensive waiting list and cop a pair for only $2,200.

Don’t hate me internetz, but I can’t help that people are awfully sensitive. I understand that I have my own hot button issues but I don’t think you can generalize that every representation of a gun in the world automatically causes you disrespect.
Besides….the shows are kinda ug.
Shoes.
Not shows.
SHOES.
Actually, I kinda like them.
They look a little bit like she just broke off the heel of her shoe and attached toy guns, but if they had a bit more stylizing/blending, they would look incredibly edgy and chic.
And for whoever is upset about guns on the shoes… Personally, I think she should be boycotting characters like Foxx in the movie “Wanted” before criticizing a red-carpet pair of shoes.
Just my $0.02. Don’t hate me.
I mean for 2200 i think it’s a mute issue and we probably will never see them on anyone.
But they don’t bug me, for the record.
[...] at Rone Break, I’m talking about gun shoes. Tacky? Offensive? Fierce? I want to hear what you [...]
Really? These are worthy of controversy? I thought they were interesting but not really worth controversy. It isn’t like they were functioning guns. Perhaps Mothers Against Murder (really? are there mothers for murder out there?) would approve of them if they were made from the guns collected in those “turn your guns in” programs that cops sponsor?
Flop on anyone else besides Madonna.
