Designer face off at the Emmys

You either love him or you hate him. I’m talking about Christian Siriano, winner of season four of Project Runway. While watching that season every time I heard the word fierce, I wanted to rip the hair out from my head and stab my ears with a fork.
But you can’t deny the kid has talent.
At 22, Siriano is being touted as the next Marc Jacobs. That’s pretty big for someone so small. His eye for drama is impeccable. Christian is easily the most recognizable of all of the winners of Project Runway and he has definitely gotten the most press. He even had a Saturday Night Live skit about him. I mean, really once SNL started poking fun at you - you have obviously made it. He’ll be forever known as the “hot tranny mess” spouting designer.
Was it really a surprise when he was asked to design a gown for the trophy girl at the Emmy’s along with Lauren Conrad? LC is best know for her reality show the Hills, which shot her to super stardom picking up her own fashion line along the way. The Lauren Conrad Collection is the best selling celebrity line out there and stores like Bloomingdale’s just can’t keep it on the floor!
In the Emmy fashion face off, it seemed Lauren Conrad came out on top this time. Christian’s gown was a little too maternity wear for my liking but the colors used were absolutely stunning with layers of pinks and fuchsias. Conrad’s dress was a little more flattering but still not very impressive. I wouldn’t discount Christian completely that night though. He got the better end of the deal when Heidi Klum came out in one of the dresses from his Spring 09 collection.
LC may have won with the presenter gown challenge but I’d much rather have Heidi rock one of my gowns any day!

I really don’t get the whole maternity wear thing. I mean, unless you’re actually pregnant, why do you want to cover up your figure that much?
I actually preferred Christian’s dress on Heidi over LC’s design. Hers is more classic but with her horrible posture, it didn’t really make it dramatic. I loved the detailing and color on the dress Heidi wore, it definitely caught everyone’s eye at the party I attended. LC’s stuff is good but so much of it is the same, looks, strapless, stappy and not very well draped. Still love her though!
When you said Heidi I totally thought you meant Heidi from The Hills– I’m very glad I was wrong.
I’m not sure about the designs, but I kind of love the face Christian made at the VMAs. He’s FIERCE! haha
I would lllllllllllove to wear anything by Christian.

It’s definitely a good thing Heidi Klum saved the day. I’m not crazy about the maternity dress; there ’s like a waterfall of fabric coming from her chest that feels more like Cousin It than it does chic party dress.
I’m with you on this. I loved the colors of HIS design, but I liked the shape of HER design. Which surprised me. Because usually I don’t like Lauren’s dresses… or maybe it’s that I like them, but I don’t like the idea of paying $300 for something I could buy for $50.
I do not support people who “starred” in The Hills, Laguna Beach, My Super Sweet 16, or similar…

I usually like maternity-esque pieces (i like the emphasis on the shoulders), but that red thing is like a night stand cover. Not hot.
The red one is a bit too maternity for my liking. I love the green one though.
I don’t know, Jamie. I saw something about LC’s collection being placed on the sales rack at Bloomingdale’s because it’s appeal was lessening!!!

I wish Christian’s had just been belted or tied at the waist somehow. If a 95-pound model’s looking preg in your stuff, than nobody else has a chance. But the colors were gorrrrrrrrrrgeous.
They were both blah. Christian’s looked like a tent and LC’s was just plain unoriginal.
I think they’re both pretty terrible, actually.
Sadly I feel so out of the fashion world, but I’ll have to agree with you on LC’s dress - too maternity -like.

OMG… I love that SNL skit. I can’t look at Christian without thinking of Amy Poehler.
The hubby hates Christian, but I think it’s because I now walk around the house informing him of what is fierce.
“This milk is fierce.”
“My feet are fierce.”
“Sex last night? Oh yeah, it was fierce.”
