“Main st. this”… “Main st. that”…

September 30, 2008 by Alexander Silva

Dude, My personal blog is a little of main (shameless, I know…) and I don’t remember anyone asking ME how this “failed bailout” affects me. Hmm, I’ll check my voice mail… Nope, nothin there. Hmm, maybe the feds have been patching into my cell phones camera and watching/listening to Lady and I “discuss the issues”. Hmm, first let me turn this thang towards the wall.

Well, since their obviously so interested, I’ll just go ahead and tell them here. [Read more]

Have your ovaries registered to vote?

September 30, 2008 by Rachel Martin

I woke up in early September to a barrage of exciting news on my TV. A woman was nominated for vice president. Every channel was talking about this historic moment, conveniently forgetting that the country had been through it before in 1984.

As a woman, watching TV got suddenly difficult. The daytime shows talked about Palin’s fashion choices and hair color. They seemed to be under the impression that the country found her glasses fascinating. It wasn’t just Palin. The fashion choices of the future first ladies were also being analyzed. I now know about their shoes, cookie recipes, and how Paris Hilton feels about them. The country’s issues were brought up in passing, an afterthought.

This gossip aura around our female politicians is scary. More women vote then men, it’s been that way since the ’80s. We put Regan in office, and the gap has increased since then. This past election 60.1 percent of women voted versus only 56 percent of men. That’s 9 million votes. We have the power to change this country but we aren’t treated like it. We are treated like women that are influenced by the check out line headlines. In those thirty seconds of scanning the gossip covers they think we will believe that Lohan is gay, Palin has battled Russia and that Batboy is on the loose! [Read more]

Fashion forward or fashion flop?

September 30, 2008 by Jamie Villarreal

Victoria and David Beckham launched their new perfume this past weekend in New York. We all know Posh has never been one to shy away from bold fashion choices and whether you like them or not, her gift for being noticed is undeniable.

No heel?

This occasion was no exception. Victoria stepped out with a pair of thigh high latex boots. As if the latex leggings look wasn’t enough to get everyone’s attention, these Antonio Berardi PVC boots had no heel! Even with her tiny frame it’s remarkable she managed to stay upright 5 1/2 inches from the purple carpet that graced the walkway.

Need some of your own? A cool £3,300 will get you your own made to order heel-less boots. Obviously, Posh isn’t the only one who loves these as 60 pairs have already been commissioned and made!

What’s the word: totally fashion forward or total fashion flop?

Five ways to ease the pain of Blackberry Thumb and a failing mobile marriage

September 29, 2008 by Brian James

Whoever coined the term “Crackberry” was spot on. There are now over 12 million Blackberry users married to their Curves, Pearls and Bolds. However, not all marriages end happily ever after.

Repetitive thumb movements have left many of us bruised and broken with Blackberry Thumb, a repetitive strain injury attributed to constant Blackberry use. Pain at the thumb base, joint and web space between the thumb and index finger are all tell tale signs that maybe your mobile marriage needs a break. Yet, like a sex addicted Duchovny we stubbornly type, text and scroll through the motions of a digital love/hate relationship.

Is your Blackberry lovin’ stressing out your thumb? Here are five solutions to ease the strain on your mobile marriage: [Read more]

Miracle At St. Anna

September 29, 2008 by Phil Naglee

This movie should have been named Lost in Translation. Ahh Spike…What have you done? First you blast Clint Eastwood for not having enough black actors in Flags of Our Fathers or Letters From Iwo Jima to promote your film, then you release this. This film is a mess. It starts out very strongly, then jumps from here to there with way too many different then hard-to-follow story lines. His overall intention is good, and should be praised for that. The scope of the movie is grand and there is an important tribute and story to tell here, but not this way. Really, Spike you should fire your editor. At 2 hours and 40 minutes, this film is unnecessarily long and rambles in so many parts, it really gets hard to follow. [Read more]

The Blackberry Javelin… Don’t Want Touchscreen? Me Either.

September 28, 2008 by Will Ehrhardt

So I’m in the market for a new cell phone in the near future, and there are some exciting things coming from HTC, Blackberry, and Google, to fight the iPhone. Personally though I would rather not have a touchscreen, ruling out most of the new phones hitting the market these days. Enter the Blackberry Javelin, the update to their ultra popular Curve.

The 2008 “VP picks can’t help themselves” debate; Dude… Biden’s toast…

September 28, 2008 by Alexander Silva

For some strange reason… Okay, because McCain can’t win this without Palin’s help, and Obama can’t win this with Biden’s help, Thursday’s debate will decide the presidency, and it all hinges on Palin. All the remaining presidential debates will do is solidify “the base”, it’s the V.P.’s debate that will draw votes away from the O’meister.

You either love him or you hate him. I’m talking about Christian Siriano, winner of season four of Project Runway. While watching that season every time I heard the word fierce, I wanted to rip the hair out from my head and stab my ears with a fork.

But you can’t deny the kid has talent. [Read more]

Sooo… Who won?… Who cares…

September 27, 2008 by Alexander Silva

Who won? Who cares…

Tonight will not change anyone’s mind. For some reason this time around it’s the Vice’s debates that will make/break this election. If Palin can win Hilary’s supporters, it’s a lock. If Biden can NOT lose too many of O’s votes, it may be a draw. (Notice I didn’t say “if Biden can win any Republican supporters”… ain’t no way in heck that’s gonna happen)

Okay okay. Here’s how I call the debate… [Read more]

Like Father Like Pole Dancer?

September 27, 2008 by Lacy Tianna

Omar Bakri Mohammed was a British immigrant before being banned from country for his radical violent views. The Syrian born preacher first made waves when praising the 9/11 terrorists as the “Magnificent 19.” Bakri is a strict Muslim who requires his family to obey the laws of his religion, including the women wearing a veil and “cover all” clothes.

When his daughter was 16 he arranged a marriage for her with a Turkish man. But, whoops, that didn’t work out. Not only did Yasmin Fostok leave her arranged life to raise her son on her own but, she got on the pole. That’s right, Yasmin is a pole dancer. And, a drinker. And, is “willing to go topless if the venue is right.” And, as far as I can tell, none of these escapades are being done in her veil. [Read more]
