Google's Knol Goes Live
July 24, 2008 by Brian James
Several months ago Google announced Knol, a user generated content website much like wikipedia. A knol is “an authoritative article about a specific topic.” While this sounds frighteningly similar to wikipedia, the key idea behind Google’s UGC project is authorship; building upon the notion people will have better use of web content knowing who wrote what they are reading. Makes sense to me but not sure if that will work with the way many already rely on wikipedia as the law of the land. Either way, Knol will either put wiki to shame or embarrassingly fall short of Google’s expectations. Head over to knol.google.com and see for yourself.
