Zimbabwe issues a 100 billion dollar bank note
July 20, 2008 by Brian James
The Zimbabwe central bank has released a 100 billion dollar bank note in an effort to combat the cash shortages resulting from the country’s 2.2 million percent inflation. These actions are in line with the recent release of other large denomination notes; a 10 million dollar note in January, followed by a 50 million dollar note in April. Notes for 100 million and 250 million dollars were released in May, soon followed by notes for 5 billion, 25 billion and 50 billion dollars. Economists are expecting the current inflation figure to skyrocket towards the 10 million and 15 million percent.
This southern African nation is a county in turmoil with 80 percent of the population living below the poverty threshold. Mass food shortages make the simplest of basic goods virtually impossible for civilians to attain. Feeling guilty about that $200 dollar seafood dinner you and your girlfriend had last night? Clear your conscience by donating your time, money or attention to organizations like Africare or any of these other non-profits currently working in Zimbabwe.

its so sad to see whats happening here…
donations of food and money are not even reaching the people there who need it because the president has banned foreign aid.
hopefully though the new agreement between the two warring parties will have some effect
Marc… I completely agree. I don’t understand the logic of banning foreign aid? Another recent example of that would be Myanmar.
As I build this site up, I will be working on finding various non-profits and charities to donate a portion of any ad revenue made. If you have worked with any in the past or know of any great ones please let me know!
